Within the events following the Unesco nomination of Turin as 2006/2007 Book World Capital with Rome, the Town of Turin and Turin Museums Foundation with the cooperation of Turin World Book Capital present a photography exhibition in the historical San Carlo square. Eighty blow-up photographs, lit up at night, each with a text.
A project by Tiziana and Gianni Baldizzone about the human body expressiveness as the first way of communication preceding spoken language.
Observing man's face and gestures is initiating oneself into a language which - unlike spoken language, constrained within the limits of a narrow number of phonemes - has thousands of nuances.
It's like adventuring inside a labyrinth of signs the body sends to the Other, revealing feelings and emotions, and of marks printed on the body - tattoos, scarifications, wrinkles.... revealing one's identity and belonging.
A journey across continents and civilizations, a journey inside the faces, glances, hands and gestures of men and women of different age, race, culture and religion to discover the expressive genius of Man and the universality of body language. A journey to the origins not to forget - in the Internet and SMS messages era - the "human side" of communication, represented by the first instrument (the body) man has ever used to communicate and supply information.
An exhibition to convey - by mean of the common language of physical expressiveness - a message of unity, respect and preservation of the mutual diversities characterizing the human species, as well as the other species.
